The choice of sanitary ware is fundamental for bathroom furnishing and functionality. Multiple factors influence the choice of bathroom fixtures, ranging from simple aesthetics to specific features of hygiene and practicality.
Based on the typology, we distinguish three types of sanitary ware: traditional floor-mounted fixtures, the most commonly used, wall-hung fixtures, and back-to-wall fixtures, which are halfway between wall-hung and floor-mounted models.
The toilet must necessarily be connected to the sewage system. The connection can be made via a floor drain and a cistern placed higher up or built into the wall, or a wall drain. The bidet must instead be connected to both the water supply and the drainage system. The optimal distance between fixtures should respect these parameters: 60 cm in front of the fixtures, 20 – 25 cm at the sides. In the case of aligned fixtures, the optimum requires 120 cm of free space.
Regarding materials, the most popular material is ceramic, which is resistant to acids and easy to clean. Among the new materials, natural stone, marble, and granite are also becoming more common, although they are demanding in terms of both cost and maintenance. As for colors, in addition to classic white, colored sanitary ware has also become very popular, from cream to brighter colors, perfect for a bathroom with a modern character.
