How to choose a lamppost

A garden lamppost is an essential fixture for outdoor lighting, allowing you to illuminate a space or a driveway so that light spreads adequately; furthermore, it can also be an elegant furnishing accessory.

The range of garden lampposts is truly extensive: you are spoiled for choice.

Choosing the right lamppost will depend on the type of garden, its exterior architecture, and its style.

Several factors should be considered when making a choice:

  • The material: the most classic ones are made of wrought iron, but there are also cast iron lampposts decorated in a classic style, in chromated aluminum, or die-cast aluminum.
  • The height: the taller the outdoor lighting poles, the larger the area they can illuminate.
  • Number of bulbs: this can vary from one to several elements; the more bulbs, the greater the diffused light. Therefore, garden lampposts with multiple bulbs will be positioned at a greater distance compared to single-bulb lampposts.
  • Energy class.
  • Design: there are lampposts with very different designs ranging from classic to more modern styles. Lampposts differ not only in the specific structure design but also in shape (rounded, lantern-style, metal mesh) and the material (plastic or glass) of the bulb enclosure.

Once these aspects are clarified, finding the most suitable lamppost for your needs will be very simple. However, it should be remembered that the lighting system should not light up the garden as if it were daylight and must vary from area to area. For example, the picnic or dining area and the children's play area must be sufficiently lit, while the garage driveway or the relaxation space defined by a gazebo should have less light. Nonetheless, in the absence of natural light, the garden should not have dark spots that prevent highlighting any obstacles or steps.
